Saturday 15th June 2019 – Achieving Growth – Ennerdale

Description

This course is designed for members holding Manager and Supporter roles in scouting and aims to provide them with an opportunity to reflect upon the ways in which they are growing scouting and to discuss barriers to growth.

Objectives – By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Produce an effective development plan to identify and promote growth in local Scouting.
  • Plan and use effective recruitment techniques.
  • Identify situations where change is needed and apply effective change management techniques to local Scouting situations.
  • Identify opportunities for flexible volunteering and support, and practice this in the recruitment and retention of adult Members.
  • Identify steps to implement their personal action plan.

The following Independent Learning Units are recommended as pre-course learning, if they are relevant to your role:

  • Project Management
  • Getting the Word Out
  • Planning for Growth
  • Leading Local Scouting
  • Finding Appointing and Welcoming Volunteers
  • Keeping Developing and Managing Volunteers
  • Enabling Change
  • Financial and Physical Resources
  • Decision Making

It is recommended that where possible learners complete the Skills of Management weekend first as many of the skills and concepts are built upon in later courses.

Sunday 16th June 2019 – Meeting the Challenges – Ennerdale

Description

The aim of this course is to provide Managers with an opportunity to discuss and develop their approach to dealing with difficult situations.

Objectives – By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify causes of conflict and define appropriate strategies to resolve it.
  • Apply The Scout Association’s dispute, suspension and complaints procedures in an effective manner to real situations.
  • Apply The Scout Association’s safeguarding procedures to real situations.
  • Carry out challenging reviews.
  • Prioritise the different challenges faced in their role.
  • Identify steps to implement their personal action plan.

The following Independent Learning Units are recommended as pre-course learning, if they are relevant to your role:

  • Getting the Word Out
  • Safeguarding for Managers and Supporters
  • Dealing with Difficult Situations
  • Enabling Change
  • Financial and Physical Resources
  • Decision Making

It is recommended that where possible learners complete the Skills of Management weekend first as many of the skills and concepts are built upon in later courses.

Accommodation is available on Saturday night for those attending both days and on Friday night for those who wish.
