Overview

Adult training for leader is now modular. The members of the small Training Team are committed to offering courses around the County,. There are some difficulties recruiting Training Advisers to assist Leaders plan their training and to carry out the validations that are necessary. We are working to find an alternative method so that Leaders will not be delayed. We will tell you about these when you attend the training sessions.

Getting Started

This is a one-day training course that will be held a number of locations in Cumbria. As new Leaders have to take the Course (and be validated) within five months of your provisional appointment, the geographical spread should not prevent anyone coming to one day quite soon after your appointment. Sectional Assistants (Helpers) also have to attend a Getting Started day but not be validated, and we would encourage Group Chairmen, Secretaries and Treasurers to attend also. You do not have to attend the Course in your District, you will be welcome at any of them. In Cumbria we are assuming that all new Leaders will be booked onto, and complete, the NSPCC “Keeping Children Safe” programme to be tackled at home. After the validation of these modules, you will be able to wear the Gilwell woggle

Section Leaders’ Training (11 to 19)

The Cumbria Training Team will offer opportunities for leaders to attend a course for each of the thirteen modules. Frankly we are not expecting you to come to all thirteen modules in one year! As you have committed yourself to completing your Wood Badge in three years, it will mean just one weekend a year, plus possibly a day for your First Aid Course./ When you work through the Personal Learning Plan (02) with your Training Adviser, you both may agree that based on your experience and/or prior learning you do not need to attend the training for a particular module. Then you can go straight to validation.
