Question "My Son/Daughter want to join Beavers/Cubs/Scouts/Explorers, but I don't know where or when they meet."
Answer

There are two simple ways to make contact.

  1. See our Joining page, which gives County level contacts for each Section. There is also a link to the 'join' page on the national Scoutbase site, or
  2. Call the national information centre with your Post Code on 0845 300 1818 and they'll be able to put you in touch with the District Contact nearest your home.

Question I have special needs can I still join.
Answer

Yes! The Scout Association is open to all who are prepared to make the Scout promise. We can't promise that every Group and HQ have all facilities, but if you explain your circumstances when you ask for joining information, we will do our best to work with you,and your family to provide the best Scout experiences we can. See the Scoutbase document Equal Opportunities Policy: Guidelines with reference to Young People: Disability

Question "I'm not a Christian, so I can't join, right?."

Uniform & Resources:

Question "I've tried Beavers/Cubs/Scouts/Explorers and now the Leader is talking about investiture, but where do I get the uniform and badges and scarf thingy and toggle wotsit?"
Answer

Uniform resources differ between Districts, you may have a school uniform shop which stocks Scouting gar you may have a Group or District Resource shop - Your District website may be able to help.

If you fail to locate a resource locally, (see Shop ) you can buy mail order from Scout Shops Ltd Logo

The Group Scarf or 'Neckerchief' is usually presented as part of the investiture ceremony and is usslly bought from your group or the same local uniform resource.

Badges are usually presented as part of the investiture ceremony and are usually given by the Group section you are joining.

The 'Woggle' varys between sections - Beavers and Cubs usually get a coloured plastic woggle identifying their Lodge or Six, these are either bought with the neckerchief or presented by the group. Scouts and above usually wear a leather woggle and have a badge to identify their Patrol.

The best advice must be to ask your section Leader!
