Cumbaree Over

Saturday and Sunday were packing up taking down and tidying up

The standing water was draining away the sun was out and there were 10 or more sacks of lost property(all without names). Everyone tired but happy. Cumbaree2002 was a success.

International Day

Unfortunately the unusually persistent rain meant we were a few Groups down but the day wasn't spoiled

Tasty fayre was a plenty from Dutch pancakes to cinnamon breads and rosehip soups. Many of international friends excelled bringing different tastes to Cumbria.

Traditional games to traditional dancing was also on display for all to watch or join in.

The evening saw the sub camps converge in a rather less formal manner than the opening for a party night to remember. The finale was a huge firework display (and the driest it had been all day!)

Activity Zones

Monday - Thursday the Sub camps rotated round Action Zone, Wonderland, Go Zone, and Wet'n'Wild

Whether they were sampling the delights of Blackpool rock or pretending to be a Roman soldier out and about on the Go Zone the trips were certainly popular. Organising the buses had been a headache but we didn't loose too many Scouts!

Go Zone
Wait 1/2 hour for a bus and then 15 come all at once!

Climbing up over through and sliding down, firing arrows to paint balls or learning to drive a car, fencing or fighting against a bungee rope plenty of action on this zone

Action Zone
Action all the way from the top!

Which is faster a canoe or a grass sledge? It doesn't really matter one was wet the other was wild. Biking climbing and jumping off a sky pole were the order of the day for those on Wet'n'Wild

Wet 'n'Wild
one of the many Wet'n'Wild Zone activities

Wonderland was split into three areas Make it and Take it was popular with all ages whether they were making balloon animals or engraving glass, learning how to turn on a lathe or make fantasy film shapes, plenty of imagination was used on this base. The technology zone saw some re-assembling a PC, others working out just how far a pop bottle rocket can travel and investigating what they could prepare in a microwave. The global Village saw scouts lost in a mine field coping with water conservation and panning for gold

Twilight was for the evening, Films visits from the mountain rescue fire eaters and the stage entertainments meant there was always plenty to do. Many decided to chill out and chomp on a burger from the snack bar - didn't Skip feed them?!

Challenge Zone Sunday!

What ever the challenge most people got wet!

From simple jigsaw tasks to timed photo challenges, from the gallons and gallons of water on its a knockout to the misty waters of Cloud greeting the hill-walkers Sunday was a day of fun and an opportunity to explore the whole site.

Toilet blocks, shower blocks marquees, electric cables, telephone cables, gates barriers, stages scaffolding and waste water cubes start arriving. Everything has to be put up connected in and sorted out. As the week progresses things start to take shape. A few Groups from overseas arrive on the Friday but the only sleeping tents are those of the staff.

6 Weeks to go...

The whole team gathers for a major staff brief!

The main teams will be introducing their additional staff to the Cumbaree way! This major staff briefing will ensure that as many staff as possible have as much information (as it is possible for their head to hold without exploding) BEFORE the camp. Why? To help them understand where, how and what activities they will help run and to ensure they are better equipped to help you enjoy Cumbaree.

4 Months to go...

The sun's shining but the wind is blowing, but what do you expect in April!

The main team leaders start bringing their teams to the site to have a look round. Now all they have to figure out is exactly how to set up all their activities to fit in with the 1200 campers 300 leaders and 250 staff!
